Ras Zacharri - Herbsman - Released September 2009
Ras Zacharri is fast establishing his name as one of Jamaica’s rising Roots Reggae stars. His fresh, unique Singjay vocal style and steadfast conscious and spiritually rooted lyrics helping to secure his name at the forefront of the international Reggae scene. He brings Roots Reggae’s peaceful message as a positive way of life, speak up for righteousness and what matters to the hearts of the people.
Zacharri was born in Jamaica by the name of Bogle Broadie. He spent his early childhood in a place called Border between St Andrews and St Mary before moving to Kingston & St. Ann’s. As a teenager he has been given the name Zacharri by well known Reggae artist Buju Banton, who was also one of his mentors in many ways. Rastafarian faith became his biggest inspiration and later he became a member of the 12 Tribes of Israel.
Keeping his ears in tune with the latest sounds Zacharri's attention to detail and quality music have lead to collaborations with some of Jamaica and Europe’s most accomplished producers & artists and musicians: Roots Garden Records, Foundation Sound, Shem Ha Boreh Records, Sugar Beat Production, One People Production, and Tru Music.
Ras Zacharri has released several singles for Jamaican and European labels. He finally presents his debut album recorded in Jamaica. Out now on the Shem Ha Boreh records, called 'Herbs Man', it features 15 tracks, including combinations with Luciano, Gregory Isaacs and Natty King.
Ras Zacharri's lyrical talent stands out all over this album with strong tunes such as the title track, Herbsman, my personal favourite from this album. His vocal style is perfect for the feeling expressed in his lyrics. Tracks such as We Survive or Dem A Fight I are filled with social awareness and a conscience message.
Another of my favourite tracks River Jordan features Luciano on guest vocals and Nick Manasseh on production. On the tune Knock Knock Gregory Issacs brings a lovers rock feeling into the song. Ras Zacharri remains the true star of this album despite the brilliant guests due to his amazing vocals. His ruff & tuff singjay vocal style is at its best on the bonus Binghi mix version of Dem A Fight I.
Two beautiful instrumentals, Ruff Road and Herbs Man close what is a very solid roots album. Herbs Man reflects a peaceful vibe with a positive message, musically diverse, but rooted in it's Jamaican origins and Rastafarian beliefs.
