What's New

Take a little peak at what's new in the world of reggae from the UKRG team

The Disney Reggae Club

Where do I start? An album of Disney’s classic songs performed by Reggae’s royalty. I admit it sounds like it wouldn’t work – but it does!

“The genius of Disney songs is that they are timeless and adaptable to every musical genre. Reggae is so joyous and spirited, we knew these songs would lend themselves perfectly. I’m happy to say the artistes, many of them true legends of reggae, all jumped at the chance to participate.”

Various Artists - "In the Garden of Dub"

This is the first release on Positivevibes label out of America, album was put together and mastered by Kris Naphtali out of Positivevibes studio.

First and foremost, all tracks are of a very high quality production and recording. As the album title suggests, they are all also Dub tracks of an original composition. I am a great lover of Dub so was looking forward to hearing this album and have to say, most certainly not disappointed.

Various - Every Mouth Must be Fed

This is a crackling compilation with all the usual Pressure Sounds graphics, photos and interviews with re-mastered tracks presenting the music at its very best. Micron Music Presents puts the focus on a label that really was important both as a label and as a business for it allowed many producers and artists a creative opening that otherwise would have been denied to them.

Pressure sounds is fast becoming my label of choice, they seem to have a knack for producing top quality re-releases and ‘Every Mouth Must be Fed’ is a prime example.

Zion Train - Live As One Remixed

The album starts with a beautiful mellow down tempo remix of 'Why' by Alambic Conspiracy followed by a Dub Creator mix of 'What A Situation' which brings the tempo up slightly. Vibronics enter the mix with 'Boxes & Amps', this is a great track but then who better to remix a track than a fellow dub master? The remix album steps up the pace with 'What A Situation' by De Niro, a track that has a dubstep flavour to it. It is a nice track and fits well in the middle of the album. Weeding Dub's remix of 'Baby Father' is a great dubby tune with an upbeat riddim. The album ends with 'Terror Talk' by Digital & Lutin, a Drum & Bass mix of an already great track turned into a top notch Drum & Bass tune.

Urban Tribe Stockholm - Bob's Bar

The story of the album title and how the band came to be is remarkably moving. Bob’s is a bar which sits on Kamala beach in Thailand and was the inspiration for the album. However in 2004 the tsunami struck Southeast Asia and the bar was completing destroyed, along with much of Kamala, fortunately Bob himself survived. Proceeds from the album sale have been used to help rebuilt Bobs. The full and very moving story is recounted by Adam in the liner notes of the album.

Vin Gordon – Gordon In De Garden

Every once in a while a song, riddim or in this case an album lands on my desk which reaffirms my belief that the music I love is unequalled. ‘Gordon In De Garden Vol 1’ is one of those releases. I’m not sure where to start with this, there aren’t enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe how good this album actually is, but I’ll give it a shot.
