Wayne McArthur & Dubheart @ The Arts Centre, Great Torrington |

For me this was a special night that could not be missed. Not only was it the chance to see Wayne McArthur play live with his new band but also a very close friend of ours (Zacheous Jackson) was to give his first live performance as the new singer of the band Dubheart.
The Venue for the gig was The Plough, also known as The Arts Centre in Great Torrington, North Devon. A small, friendly place which I feel was just right for the occasion. We turned up early to find Dubheart doing their sound check, listened for a while then decided to return later and here it all for real.
When we returned to the club Dubheart were on stage doing a couple of their tunes before they introduced Zacheous to the audience. Over the past few weeks I’ve come to know all the band members personally and can honestly say they are the nicest people you could ever meet and all very talented. They have been playing together for around ten years apart from Dave the keyboard player who I believe joined about two years ago. They have truly mastered the art of live Dub which, to my knowledge, not many other artists can do. With the addition of singer/songwriter Zacheous Jackson their music can only grow and will certainly appeal to a wider audience. Zacheous has a real talent for the written word and a voice to carry the music of Dubheart to a new dimension. I would say his voice is a mix of David Hinds (Steel Pulse) and Horace Andy especially when he sings the song ‘Money’. To date the band have only five songs voiced, but this was all done in only about five meetings or so, quite an achievement! My personal favourite has got to be ‘Murder In The City’. I’m aware that most of you reading this will not yet know these songs, but their next step is to record an album and from that who knows. I strongly believe that together they can go far and be up there with the best that the reggae world has to offer – personally I feel they already are! The band hails from the Bournemouth area and can often be found playing the local clubs and pubs, so if you get the chance then check them out...
Next up we had Wayne McArthur with his newly formed band which consists mostly of Wayne’s Daughters with added drums and percussion. I was told that this was only the third time that they had performed together, but you wouldn’t have known that from they way that they played and interacted on stage. Wayne played many of his well known songs, much to the delight of the audience, which I must admit was not the size such music deserves. But nevertheless those that did turn out were a very happy bunch, having a great time dancing and enjoying the closeness that you can only get with a small venue. We managed to get back stage after the show to meet and greet everyone...all was friendly all was happy and all agreed that the night was a big success...
