Various - Best Seven Selections 2

Best Seven is a small, independent record label run by Berlin based DJ Daniel W. Best. Since 1999 Best has been blending soul and reggae into his sounds which has naturally led him to dabble with dub and downbeat.

Best Seven has released several albums since its inception, including ‘Midnight Marauders’ by Joe Dukie and DJ Fitchie (Fat Freddy Drop fame) and has produced a host of artists, such as Eva Be, Lightning Head and Kabuki Ras.

Back in 2003 the first ‘Best Seven Selection’ was released and now, four years later, Volume 2 hits the streets featuring the hottest of the Best Seven artists.

There are some outstanding tracks on this release, namely ‘Take it Slow’ from Boozoo Banjou featuring the mighty U-Brown. This is a wonderful mix of modern R n B with the deejay chats of the man U-Brown, with the two styles working very well together. Another massive cut is ‘Sista Riddim’, a brand new and exclusive track by Extended Spirit (from members of Jazzanova). This Riddim is funky and downright classy, with some wicked guitar hooks, horns (from Fat Freddys) and keyboard playing reminiscent of the legendry Jackie Mittoo. Another notable track includes ‘The Answer’ from The Black Seeds, a band who have gained superstar status in the New Zealand reggae scene. The final track entitled ‘Soulmap’, from a sweet voiced Melasse, will have you feeling well and truly chilled with its soulful horns and downbeat b-line.

Best has put together a welcomed and varied collection of expressive and meaningful reggae tunes. Pick this up while you can, you won’t be disappointed.
