Various - The Kings Of Reggae |

Following the success of ‘Kings of Techo', BBE and Rapster have again joined forces to bring you their 8th instalment in the ‘Kings of’ series. This time around the mighty sound-clash selector David Rodigan and the US based Sing International have selected what they consider to be the top of the pile when it comes to ‘The Kings of Reggae’.
Rodigan is a legend within the reggae business. He is highly respected and has been championing reggae for over thirty years. His contribution to radio has earnt him a place in the Radio Academy Hall of Fame and he can be heard spinning tunes on KISS FM.
CD one is Rodigan’s selection and consists of him dropping roots classic after roots classic. His opening track, the mighty reggae Anthem, ‘Satta Massa Gana’ is just one example of the timeless, sweet roots vibe that appears on this compilation. Other shining examples chosen by Rodigan include ‘Marcus Garvey’ from the foundation rocker Burning Spear; ‘Police in Helicopter’ from John Holt; ‘Two Sevens Clash’ from Culture and ‘Blackheart Man’ from an original wailer. There may be no surprises to any ardent reggae enthusiast, but that’s not really the point. This selection is timeless and deserves to be played on heavy rotation.
CD two showcases Sing International's selection. If you’ve not heard of this guy you’ll no doubt know his music. He’s been responsible for Shaggy’s hit singles ‘Boombastic’, ‘Oh Carolina’ and ‘It Wasn’t Me’. He’s also worked alongside Barrington Levy, Elephant Man and Maxi Priest.
Sing International spins the dancehall vibes, showcasing those early artists that shaped the way the dance would evolve. Tracks include ‘Over Me’ from the one called Yellowman; ‘M16’ from the Lone Ranger; and ‘Roll Call’ from the mighty Tenor Saw. Anthony Red makes an appearance on the classic track ‘Tempa’, a raw, hard-hitting tune built for the sound systems. This is music that shaped the way in which the Deejay style would be developed and delivered to the people.
As mentioned, no major surprises on this release, just a comprehensive and personal insight into the music that we all love. Go buy it now!
