Dreadzone & The Defekters - Hitchin 2010 |

Club 85 is a nice little venue with a great sound. The club has a bar room downstairs with the main space upstairs where there is another bar. I had only been here once before to see RDF a couple of years ago & there had been a fair sized crowd but Dreadzone were a sell out. The venue was packed out & it was a struggle to push through to get to the bar... just as it should be!
Dreadzone have now been together for 17 years in various forms, always with founder member Greg Roberts. Their 6th studio album 'Eye on the Horizon' is due out on 26 April. They are firm favourites on the festival scene & have gigged endlessly over the years.

Zion Train - Live In Bristol - Oct 09 |

Once the initial shock had passed the guys stepped it up! The few of us that were present were up for the party and Dubdadda did his upmost to oblige! His boundless energy coupled with the unmistakable power of the Zion Train bass-lines and always impressive live horn sound got the place bouncing. As a one off special Zion Train invited Princess Jewels along as a guest vocalist, the addition of female vocals to the mix added that sorely missed dimension to their sound. From a personal point of view I hope they get her (or other such female vocalists) onboard with future live shows, its makes such a difference.

Zion Train - Glastonbury Town Hall Oct 09 |

Zion Train appeared at the 'Back 2 its Roots' gig in Glastonbury Town Hall to help raise funds for two Ethiopian charities, For-ethiopia and Plan Lalibela. Zion Train have just released a new album, 'Live as One Remixed'
The Glastonbury town hall is a nice little venue with a makeshift bar. There are no real ales or large choices of drinks here, but when you come for the music it doesn't really mater. It gets rather warm in the hall especially when security don't open the fire exits for some cool night air. There is no smoking area which is a pain, unless you have backstage access you have to go out the front for a smoke.

Dreadzone - Gloucester Guildhall Oct 09 |

The Guildhall is a lovely venue, a bar room with seating and the main hall which also has a bar and an amazing bouncy dance floor. There is also a gallery up there so if you ever go arrive early and admire the art! The downside to the Guildhall is that there is no smoking area. Patrons who are also smokers have to go out to the front of the building on Eastgate street. This is a main pedestrianised street in the centre of town which means you get all sorts of people going to and from bars and clubs passing by. This is not the greatest setting in which to enjoy a smoke.
