Baby Head – Side A - Jungle Law // Side B – Jungle Lore (Lupo Dub Mix)
Baby Head – Side A - Think Money // Side B – Think Money (Lupo Dub Mix)I was extremely excited to learn that the Bristol collective, Baby Head, have signed to the mighty Rockers Revolt label. The band has been a firm favourite of the Bristol scene for many years and shortly due to release their 3rd album, ‘Heavy Weather’ which was recorded in Portishead’s
“State Of Art” studio.
For anyone new to the Baby Head collective the band impressively blend Ska, hip-hop and reggae with a heavy horn driven big band sound, turning the whole melting pot into an electrifying swagger of musical pleasure.
‘Jungle Law’ is the first release from the new album and hopefully sets the tone for things to come. The track is a big, bass driven, brooding affair featuring blazing horns, big band tones, ska beats and lyrics inspired by Rudyard Kipling's The Law Of The Jungle poem. The track romps along at a fine pace and has all the making of an instant live hit. There’s a dub mix included which plays on the brooding feel of the track. It features heavy echo, snippets of vocal and the inclusion of some keyboard trickery, this all adds up to a more ominous than usual Baby Head track.
Next up we have
‘Think Money’, which is a more much more upbeat and easy going affair. The song is instantly catchy and will have you tapping your foot within seconds. The beauty of this little number is in the lyrics, surely such a likeable tune can’t be singing about prostitution? Following this we have a dub cut which really highlights the beauty of this track. The addition of some well placed effects and a fantastic trombone solo pulls it all together very nicely indeed.
‘Jungle Law’ is out on the 1st June on download and limited edition 7" vinyl (only 300 hand numbered copies), available now at
http://www.rockersrevolt.com/Think Money is available on 5th July, so keep your eye peeled on the Rockers Revolt website.
